There are many sides to Ibiza and many ways in which you can enjoy the island. Ibiza is known around the globe for its progressive party scene and world-class DJs that arrive on the island each year for residencies at its famous clubs. Tourists in their thousands flock to the clubs, totally missing out on the laid back, colourful and tranquil side which is equally as mind blowing as the party scene, albeit in a different way.
Here at The Tribe, the hippie side of Ibiza is one of our favourites. There is so much history surrounding the free-spirited movement, with a nod to its magic and influence on the island, everywhere you turn.
Back in the 1960s/1970s, hippies were drawn to the island looking to escape the political and economic situations in their home countries. Ibiza offered a freedom and more rural way to live that appealed to this group that didn’t believe in conforming to society’s expectations.
Attracted by cheap rents (yes, really!) and a less crowded lifestyle, hippies travelled from around the world to take refuge on the white isle, as rumours spread of a sunny paradise brimming with untouched coves, surrounded by crystal clear coastlines. Ibiza was a place of free love and expression, exactly what they were looking for at the time.
Here are a few suggestions that are a must for anyone wanting to have an Ibiza break that will leave you feeling truly energised and inspired by the White Isle’s history and charm.
This breathtaking beach located on the Northside of the island set in between two huge rocks should be first on your Ibiza Hippie hit list.
The pebbled beach looks out to an enchanting rock named by the locals as “the finger of god.” Traditionally famous for its Sunday drumming sessions, Benirrás now hosts relaxed sunset drumming sessions each night. This means you always have the chance to experience this wonderful community, creating beautiful music, in this iconic Ibiza setting.
There is also a small daily (except Wednesday and Thursday) rustic hippie market selling lots of fashion, craft and handmade pieces.
You haven’t taken a walk on the hippie side without a visit to Las Dalias Hippie Market. Las Dalias first opened its door in 1954 as a bar on the side of the road, with a dance-floor. The venue was here before the hippies but when they arrived in the 70s it became a place they would visit to gather and relax after work. They soon started to host Wednesday jam sessions and rumour has it that the legend, Bob Marley, played here.
Today it has developed into a hub of creativity with everything from fashion and craft stalls to food stalls full of mouthwatering options as well as a lineup of unmissable events hosting some amazing talent!

Myth has it Es Vedra is the 5th most magnetic place in the world and it has an energy that can’t even be communicated with words. It offers a feeling of positivity and peace, being in its presence makes for the perfect location to sit, be still and reflect.
This enchanting rock stands almost 400 metres tall in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, off the southwest coast of Ibiza. When you see this magical rock it’s easy to understand why it is one of the most visited landmarks on the island.
Es Vedra is truly breathtaking at any time of day, however, sunset is incredibly popular amongst tourists. Watching the sun dissipate into the waters is a memory you won’t forget in a hurry.

We can’t write an Ibiza blog about the Hippie movement and not mention a party. Flower Power, Ibiza’s longest running club night, is a chance to dig out your favourite colourful outfits and step back in time. Think outlandish flares, fabrics drenched in flowers and sun glasses the shape of hearts.
Once again Flower Power has collaborated with iconic party venue, Cova Santa, to transport you back so you can experience this beautiful time in the Islands history for yourself. This party is not to be missed; packed with production and immersive entertainment including peace signs, flowers and the famous VW - be prepared to be totally unprepared as you get swept away in a world of peace, love and freedom!
